When I stepped onto the plane, with the packet of sweets in my hand, the air stewardess asked me how my son was. I immediately hid the sweets behind my back. It feels like everybody knows his jaws are locked and I am buying sweets. At home I put the sour worms in my cupboard.
“Aldo, tomorrow is your dad’s birthday, why don’t you try and open your jaws for him?” I knew it would be a wonderful gift for Tinus. I was speaking to Aldo while he was sitting in the big chair next to my bed. During the last 2 months we tried everything to open his jaws. A thought flashed through my mind “sour worms”. I took the packet out of my cupboard and showed it to him, “these worms come from the airport, what do you think about that?”
I broke off a small piece and pushed it into his cheek, should something happen, I could always remove it again. Slowly he started to move his tongue and opened his mouth. My eyes opened wider and wider. I jumped onto my bed and shouted with joy, Praise God!!! I enjoyed the jumping so much I want to keep on doing it.
Friday morning I am the first one up and made some tea, because it was daddy’s birthday. Tinus brings Aldo to our bed. I wet a piece of rusk and ask Aldo to open his mouth to have some. “Open your mouth Aldo, wider, just a little more yes, use your tongue to eat.” His daddy couldn’t have asked for a better gift.
Since Friday it has been a feast in our house. Aldo gets his favourite food, chocolate mouse and Pro Nutro for breakfast. Josh feeds him Spiderman chips and encourages Aldo to open his mouth wider, because the chips are so big. Some friends came to visit on Sunday and everybody gets a turn to feed Aldo. What great joy.
Abraham kept on believing in hope without any hope, because He knew God was able to do what He promised. After he waited patiently he received that which he was promised.
Phi 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, Rejoice! Let your reasonableness be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious about nothing, but in everything by prayer and by petition with thanksgivings, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
I want to thank everybody that supports us and walks this road with us. Thank you that you believe with us. People that come to visit and don’t mind helping Aldo try and walk. Although we have to talk while squatting on our haunches in the corridor, busy with Aldo, you do not stay away. We laugh together when we struggle to get up and I realise this is my exercise for the Mrs. World competition!
Be warned, when you come and visit the McPhersons you will get your fair share of exercise. We put Aldo on the exercise bike and Bradley his friend helps him by moving his feet. It is hard work, but it does not deter Bradley, he always comes back for another ‘work-out’.
I honour my God who is a living God and answers prayers!
Love Retha
